Crisis resources

If you or someone you know is in need of help, consult these resources for support in times of crisis. As always, if someone is in immediate danger, call 911 (inside the U.S.).

Depression and mental health support

Suicide Prevention Lifeline — 800 273-TALK (8255) – Free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

National Council for Suicide Prevention — The Council has resources for suicide prevention, including a description on the warning signs for suicide. 

Support for teens

Crisis Text Line — Crisis Text Line serves young people in crisis, with access to free, 24/7, emotional support and information they need via text.

The Trevor Project — 866 488-7386 – The Trevor Project provides crisis and suicide intervention resources for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth and young adults.

ReachOut — ReachOut 800 448-3000 – ReachOut is a support service for teens and young adults facing tough times and struggling with mental health issues. The site’s content is written by teens and young adults, for teens and young adults

Child safety

National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) – 800 843-5678 ( 800 - THE LOST ) — NCMEC has a 24/7 hotline to contact, in addition to your local law enforcement, to report missing or exploited children.

National Child Abuse Hotline — 800 4-A-Child (800 422-4453) or text CHILDHELP to 847411 — The Hotline has 24/7 access to crisis counselors who can help children at risk for abuse, distressed parents seeking crisis intervention and concerned individuals who suspect that child abuse may be occurring.

Human trafficking

National Human Trafficking Resource Center  — 1-888-373-7888, or Text BeFree (233733) — Contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center to report sex trafficking, forced labor, or to get help.

Domestic violence & dating abused

The National Domestic Violence Hotline - 1−800−799−7233 or TTY 1−800−787−3224 — Provides lifesaving tools and immediate support to enable victims to find safety and live lives free of abuse.
 
The National Dating Abuse Helpline- 1-866-331-9474, Text “loveis” to 77054, or Chat - Promotes healthy and safe relationships in teens and young adults. Advocates are trained to offer support, info and help to those in abusive relationships 24/7.

Sexual Assault Support

Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network (RAINN) — 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or Chat — Provides victims of sexual assault with 24/7 free, confidential services and support whenever they need it.

Department of Defense (DoD) Safe Helpline —  1-877-995-5247 or Chat — 24/7 Live, confidential, worldwide support for members of the DoD community affected by sexual assault. Safe Helpline offers 5 support services: Helpline, Chat, Safe-Care App, Safe HelpRoom and Info By Text.
